Jessica Taylor is backing "flawless" Joe McElderry to win The X Factor.

The former Liberty X singer said: "He's got an amazing voice and I think he's so sweet and so gorgeous."

She added: "Every performance he's done so far has been flawless and you couldn't pick holes in it if you tried."

Jessica, whose band Liberty X lost out to Hear'Say in Popstars but went on to rack up 10 consecutive top 20 chart hits, continued: "For such a young lad to have such a powerful voice, I think he's going to go far."

However, despite backing Joe she admitted every week she's glued to her seat waiting for twins John and Edward to perform.

"Originally I was like 'Why has Louis picked them?'," she said. "When Cheryl Cole said 'they are my guilty pleasure' I know exactly what she means because you look forward to seeing what they're going to do - rightly or wrongly.

"I don't think they should win because they're not the most talented people in the competition, but they're certainly good fun for the time being."

Charlie Drummond backing Joe McElderry

Big Brother star, Charlie Drummond, has admitted that he is backing fellow Geordie Joe McElderry to win this year’s X Factor.

Charlie told The Shields Gazette:“I’m backing Joe 100 per cent, and I’m so pleased he’s in Cheryl’s category as well – Geordies together.

“It’s great two South Tynesiders have been in the two biggest realityTV shows this year.“He did really well on Saturday, I knew he would get through but I just had to pick the phone up, it’s best to be sure.

“Everyone I have spoken to I have been telling them to vote for Joe. “I have always watched X Factor and I will definitely be watching this year.”He added: ” He’s in with a really good chance, he’s got it all – he’s good looking, young and can sing. I can’t see why he can’t win it.

“If ever he needs any advice on how to handle the media when the show’s over, I will definitely help him out – from one Sanddancer to another.”

All about the boys

Cheryl, mentoring Lloyd Daniels, Joe McElderry and Rikki Loney, said she believed the show would have a male winner this year. Girls Aloud star Cheryl - who still has all three of her acts in the competition - added: "This year is all about the boys."

Live Show 2: Joe McElderry

Joe has been singing from a very young age - just loving to get up and sing. Now, backed with advice from Whitney Houston herself - the other judges are worried. Is Joe the one to watch?

Family Party

Fans of X-Factor hopeful Joe McElderry lifted their spirits quite literally in a big family party to show their support last night.

Friends, family and well-wishers all congregated in The Office pub in South Shields in a knees-up organised to get behind the North East lad.

More than 40 turned up, from aunties and uncles to people who used to live next door to his nana. With balloons and a big screen to watch the two hours of X-Factor action, they were all excited to see him perform and hopefully go through to the next round, and most were wearing T-shirts with Joe’s picture on it.

Cousin Dave Graham from South Shields had got together with pub tenant Carl Ferguson to put on the party as it was the first live round.

He said: “Every week we’ve had a party in someone else’s house, so we thought for the first live finals we would get a venue.

“His performance was absolutely fantastic – all four judges went wild about him. I can’t believe he held his nerve with millions of people watching and 3,000 in the audience. But he absolutely nailed it. The pub was up – and there was a phenomenal reaction.

“He’s obviously got one chance in 12 but it’s what other people have said about him. Will Young and Robbie Williams rate him and he’s got good feedback. But then I’m going to be biased. He’s a lovely lad – so grounded, and nothing seems to phase him.”

Dave and his friends have been increasing Joe’s odds with an impressive level of commitment. They spent all of yesterday going around supermarkets near their home, wearing the T-shirts and handing out an incredible 2,000 leaflets in the Boldon branch of Asda alone.

Most of the reaction they got was excellent, and some even refused to take a flier, saying they had already decided to vote anyway.

Dave’s daughter Rebecca, 12, went to the Galleries in Washington to drum up support.
